Dvd recorded does not record

i have a vcr/dvd-rw  recorded . the vcr record but everytime i try to record on the dvd it say the disk i am using cannot be use or record.. i try all of them ..DVD-RW, DVD+ AND IT STILL DOES NOT record.. when i also tranfer music video from my computer to a dvd it does not play back on the dvd, why is that
