Since you can smoke tobacco that is 12 years old I do bleieve your taste buds are negetively affected.
Truthfully it is all the chemicals they spray on the pipe tobacco that keeps it smokeable. Nothing like a good pipe load of 13 year old preservatives and other chemicals, plus commercially grown tobacco. Try a good cigar made with naturally grown tobacco, hand rolled and specially aged.
