Drowsiness as a result of Xanax usage

My sister has been taking Xanax from quite a while now and she is suffering from drowsiness that sometimes prevents her from participating in most day to day activities. What can she do to relieve that drowsiness?

Here is some information that I think you'll find helpful about antidepressant medicine.  There are some new drugs out there that have close to no side-effects, and maybe your sister needs to try something new.  Every drug effects each person differently... so it's just about finding what's right for every individual.  Good luck.

Xanax is an antianxiety medication, so she should only be taking it when she feels anxious. If that happens to be in the morning, she might get a bit drowsy because of it. She could try a smaller dose or take it before bedtime, which is when some people find it most useful.

Everyone that takes Xanax will experience drowsiness.  There is no way to avoid it except to stop taking it altogether.  You can reduce your dosage but you will still experience some drowsiness.  Xanax is a highly addictive anti-anxiety drug.  It is mood altering and has been known to cause other addictive behaviors.  She should be very careful taking this medication and only take it when absolutely necessary. It is not meant for longterm use, although many doctors will keep prescribing it anyway.

when one first starts xanax that is not unusual, however, the prescribing physician needs to monitor the amount given. large amounts are not necessary usually  so she is probably on too high a dosage, or maybe taking it with something that is potentiating its effects. also taking on empty stomach can do that, slow down the absorption with some food sometimes helps. she needs to inform the prescribing physician, adjustments need made.

I would think that , explaining the situation to a physician and trying to find an alternative to the medication would be appropriate. I take my medication especially the ones that make you drowsy at night , that way it has no effect on my daily activities .

Zan is NOT an ANTI_Depressant!  She probably just needs to cut down on her doses or just only "take" half when only needed. I know, I take them for stress and anxiety.....and I get very tired, and I need to keep going thru the day too.  Have her cut down.....and also have her take gingseng vitamins or drink the liquid...........it does help! Hope this is useful!
