Drinking water while running

What are the effects of drinking water during running? Can it stimulate the notorious stitch.

According to

this article you can die if you drink too much while running. I am pretty sure if you are running short distances you should drink before and after but if it is a marathon that is something else. You should  drink  as much as you sweat away.
