Drinking opened Chardonnay

I opened a bottle of CA Chardonnay on Monday 2/5. I have since had the bottle reclosed in the refrigerator. Should this still be good to drink the evening of Thurs 2/8?

WIne never goes "bad" in the sense of hurting you. You can drink very old wine, the question is whether it tastes good. Depending on the style of the wine and quality it could last that long or longer. But will always be better if you have it in a refridgerator. No matter the color all opened wine should be refridgerated. It slows down the oxidization. Depending on the wine, let it warm up after removing from the fridge.

There are silly devices meant to preserve the wine longer. I've tried many of them in 10 years of drinking wine, I've found that a cork stuck back in the bottle does just as good.

hope that helps

Life's too short for excessive compromise... maximize everything!

Depending on the bottle, it may still be good.  It is highly likely that some of the fruit has faded.  White wines ordinarily have less staying power than reds as a general rule but there are always exceptions.

Increasing your odds of your chardonnay being good, is the age of the wine.  If is is young, it has a better chance than if it is from an older vintage.  I find the vacuum stoppers to work excellent when used correctly. Vacu-Vin is the best product, but many people will over pumpm hence succking the oxygen out of the wine and articially aging it.  I have stored wines for a week or more with great results simply bu using the vacu-vin.  The instructions say about 5 pumps, however the amount of wine remaining in a bottle will vary.  I satrt with 5 pumps and as soon as I feel the slightest change in resistance, I know it is adequate!  Good luck and I hopoe this helps!

Hi becsdahl,

You received two very good answers from catovino and the wine snob. However both failed to mention the rule of thumb that all wine drinkers and so called experts follow and that is to drink the wine within three days.

So to answer your question, yes your wine should still be very drinkable. I have even went as long as five days and the wine was still good.

Anything longer than that, you may want to use it in cooking one of your favorite recipes.

Have fun!

It is true that it won't hurt you as one respondent says, but it does pain me a bit to think of drinking wine that has been opened for 3 days...air is the enemy of wine!  It is true there are various devices out there that don't work, but I've come to swear by Wine Preserve, which puts a blanket of Nitrogen and CO2 gases over the wine--that way it does keep well for several days.
