Drinkable Water in the swiss alps

I'm planning a week long journey up in the swiss alps. I'm gonna camp, and not stay in any of the huts. My question is, Do I need to carry water, or Is it safe to drink from haute streams. What about melting snow. Is it good to drink?

It is always advisable to purify water. Nevertheless in places like the European alps and New Zealand many people do drink stream water and get no side effects. I would recommend seeking advice from the locals. They know best.

There are many ways to purify water. It dependes on what you wanna purifiy. Have that checked with local people as well. Before drinking from streams, look around for dead animals (Extreme cases). Avoid drinking from standing water, which may develop Giradia.

Try taking the water from the last flowing part of the stream where you know it wasn't polluted by huts. Snow is usually safe to drink. beware of Hypothermia though. Have fun.
