Dressing ugly tile

ok, i have the original old pink tile on walls of very small bathroom (I live in a co-op in Queens, NY) I want to try and renovate without spending too much. doing a retile is my last option. What I want to know is can you put bigger tile over 5" by 5" small tile, can I paint it? What can I do to change it without haveing to take it down. The neighbors would have a heartattack if they had to endure the noise to.

There are paints that have been develooped to paint ceramic tiles. Go to a good paint store that could recommend which product to use
