Dreams flashback

Recently, I get flashback of my dreams during the day. Usually, I do not recall dreams, so it seems very strange. May it point to something?

Same thing happened to my husband. He would either remember them or not at the moment he opened his eyes. now he almost always remember them, just not first ting in the morning. It take him a couple of hours to recall.

What made the difference in his case, I think, was that the two of us moved in together and his sleeping and waking up habits changed. Maybe it's the same for you - have you changed your job and have to wake up earlier \ later? did you change alarm clock that wake you up less sudden or let you sleep more? Are you sleeping in different hours?

I read an article about remembering dreams in general a while ago and
it said that in order to remember dreams it's better to wake up all at once and not drag in bed for a long time.

You have just described what is happening to me every day all day.  I feel like I have dreamt this before and I was here before but it wasn't real and now it is.  I am in a waking state but it doesn't feel real.  The hardest part about this feeling is that I am scared.  I am scared of the feeling because it makes me dizzy and nausiated and it is all just so weird.  I try to tell myself that it is not real and just a memory of a dream but it doesn't go away.  Then I start to loose who I am and where I am and everything I do seems surreal.  I need help.  I don't know what to do to get rid of this feeling.

2 thumbs up

Hi Lani,

Boy, it sounds like the flashbacks can be really disturbing for you.  Have you tried talking/processing the experience with someone you trust?  I would even spend some time journalling - detailing the physical experience, maybe even allowing it to arise in a safe setting so that your body/mind can work through it without feeling threatened.  As a yoga teacher I find that when things are "allowed to be' in a safe space they seem to work themselves out (eventually), or you may have some insight into what the experience is about.  I would suggest seeing a good transpersonal therapist, yoga teacher or someone who "gets" experiences out of the ordinary (just make sure that person isn't a flake).  I wonder what a psychologist/psychiatrist would say... I imagine that the right one may have some insight and the wrong one may diagnose any one of us as schizophrenic!

Take care, and I'd be interested to keep updated....

This is such a relief to find other people who've experienced this REALLY uncomfortable feeling. I've been having dream flashbacks for only about 2 weeks now, and they seem to be getting more and more intense each time. It seems that some random thing I'm doing will trigger off a train of thought, and somewhere along that I'm reminded of one of these dreams. It's usually a series of familiar but really strange images, like I can remember actually dreaming about it, but when I try to recall the dream again after the flashback, it's totally gone from my memory. It kind of leaves you with this really strange and disturbing feeling. It happened again about 20 minutes ago, and I thought, ok, I've got to look this up, because it's really scaring me. And this time I felt really nauseous, almost to the point of throwing up. If anyone finds any articles on this, it would be great if links could be posted here...

Exactly Copper!  Just had my third flash today.  Very weird....It's only happened at two other moments for me many years ago.  I say moments precisely because they made a very lasting impression.  Intense anxiety and nausea - close to throwing up.  Your description is right on.  After this last one I walked straight to the computer and googled " dream flashback, nausea" and here you all are.  Not a good experience for me.  I break out in a sweat right after and I'm left feeling disoriented and spaced out.  Sure would like some explanation from someone.

U.P., I'm on a quest to find some answers to this, as this isn't simply solved by keeping dream journals. It actually affects you physically and emotionally when you get the flashbacks, and it seems impossible to remember them anyway. I've had flashbacks of dreams before, and I'd just kind of laugh and think 'oh yeah, I dreamt about that recently'. But these flashbacks are SO DIFFERENT. It happened again twice for me today - the first time was accompanied by nausea, and disorientation too as you described. The second time I was in the middle of a conversation with my partner, and I tried to explain the images to him quickly before they disappeared. Thankfully no real side effects that time, except for the uneasy feeling. I'm sure we're all quite sane people, so this must be easily explained!
