Dogs help kids' health

Is this the first study of its kind in the world to provide proof that raising dogs helps kids' health?

Does anyone know of any other studies that have been published?

There was some research done proving that dogs and cats help protect kids from stomach bugs. The stomach flu in kids with dogs and cats were a lot lower then those without (30% less likely for kids with pets to get the stomach flu). It seems like by having pets kids are exposed to a lot more germs making them more immune to viruses and infections. They also proved that having pets lowers your likelihood for depression and heart disease. Read more about this study

Exposure to multiple dogs along with presence of a certain types of bacteria could help prevent kids from wheezing. The researchers found that infants who live in a home with two or more dogs and a high level of certain types of a bacterial substance were a third less likely to develop wheezing in the first year of life than those who didn't live with dogs.

For me dogs are good for kids health because they can give joy to them.  Even without their parents the kids don't feel alone.
