My county EMT is 3 minutes away from my house, we went there they used their instruments to try and retrieve the doggie treat which got lodged in her throat. It was too far down so they used another instrument and the only thing to do was push it down further till it cleared her air passage way. Immediately she took a deep breath, without them she would be dead. I hugged them and thank them and they said, "To us a life is a life". The next week end we cooked the biggest brisket, bake beans, cole slaw and took to them. Just a small token of our deepest, heartfelt appreciation for saving one of our family members that just happened to be four legged! If I could not make it to an emergency clinic in time I would try the same thing, tongs to try and bring it up or hold them face down and give them a thrust to the back midsection to dislodge it, if that didn't work grab a like a long, smooth plastic mixing spoon and push it on down to stomach. They will either pass it or depending on what it is it buys time for some surgery.
