Dog tags of the american soldier

I am doing a report on the american soldier, his dress and training.My dad was in the vietman war, and i thought this would be a great subject, with memorial day ccoming. I was asked a question which i did know the answer, my frien asked me what the notch in a dog tag meant, i did not know and do not have anyone to ask.wher can i find out or do you have a answer,this would be great to add to my report.thanks kevin

wow, I did'nt know that and I'm in the army. I was staring at my dogtags for a while looking for a notch.
