Disturbed by Friend's Loud Sex

I am a student living in a small cottage with a roommate. Directly above my room is a studio apartment, where our other friend lives. I can pretty much hear everything that goes on upstairs, but it isn't the walking or talking that bothers me. Several times a week, I can hear my friend and her boyfriend having loud sex...and it's just horrible! My friend does not take confrontation well at all, and I know I cannot talk to her about this without her hating me. Her boyfriend's old roommate (and friend!) previously complained and now neither of them speak to him. What should I do?

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

I don't think it will help but it might be worth a try:  Leave her a letter.  Tell her exactly (in a smart sensetive way) what bothers you and ask her politely to be considerative and find a quick solution to it.  If it doesn't help than you'll have to decide: Live with it or leave (find a new place).
Best regards,

I am your worst nightmare. An intelligent smart arse.

Oron's way is the way i should have handled this myself back in my younger days, but didn't. i think i embaressed my roommates into being quieter, cause i would beat on the ceiling with a broom then start making loud tarzan like noises. after a few nights of that they quit having sex in the apartment.

Roommate is really hard, especially when it comes to a sensitive topic like sex and sex noises.

My suggestion - next time they have a go at it, turn the music really really loud and only turn it off once they are done, if you do that a couple of times I think they'll get the massage, if she complain about the noise of the music, just say that you were embarrassed by the sex noises and turn the music up so you can't hear it.

It's a little passive aggressive but better then banging on the ceiling shouting "come already" (I did that once).

MY inferiority complex isn't as good as YOURS

Oron's idea of leaving a letter is good, but I wouldn't sign it with your name.I would type it on the computer, print it out and sign it "your neighbor".

Either that or make a joke about it.Say something like "I barely slept last night...and we both know you didn't" and grin at her over your coffee cup. That worked with a friend of mine.

It's hard in those kinds of apartments. If you can hear her walk and talk up there, you may always hear them doing it unless they can manage to levitate and they're both open to wearing a gag.
