Disk Management Tool options grayed out.

OK. I have a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. I installed a Western Digital Protege internal hard drive as a slave. The jumpers are correct, and everything is hooked up properly. The BIOS recognizes that the hard drive is there, but it is not showing up in "My Computer". I have gone into Computer Management, and tried to assign a drive letter using the Disk Management Tool, but, while Computer Management recognizes the hard drive, and says it is "Healthy" and "Active", the options on the right-click menu are all grayed out except for "Delete Partition" and "Help". I should also mention the hard drive is also showing up in Hardware Profiles. What do I do now???

Make sure the drivers are installed.  In device manager if they are not there will be a exclmation point with yellow behind it.  The drive must be partitioned and formated as well.

If you open My Computer and you don't see your new drive it has not been partioned.  You should be able to partion a drive in Disk Managment, if not you can use your windows restore cd/dvd and reboot you computer and partion the drive and then exit.

It has to be formated as well which can be done in disk managment or with windows cd/dvd.

Make sure jumpers are right, They probably are, the drive probably wouldn't show up if it wasn't

Thanks.  I had to click on "Delete Partition" (the only option I had), then repartition and format.  Everything works now!

Thanks again!
