I started my dishwasher, then a few minutes later I found a couple more dishes so I opened the door to add them to the dishwasher. Something down by the door hinge snapped and broke off, but then the door felt kind of heavy. I shut the door and turned it back on. It didn't do anything, so I pushed the button to restart the cycle. Big mistake. It started filling with water and wouldn't stop and water started running out on the floor. I shut it off. I pushed the cancel and drain button, but nothing happened. Now no lights come on or anything. It is an old dishwasher. What broke and is it worth fixing?
This is something only a mechanic on the spot can assess. It seems though that you should think seriously about getting a new one. They aren't that expensive and if it's old anyway chances are that you'll have more problems with it in the future.
