Pretty far, especially for dishwashers because they pump the water uphill on purpose. I wouldn't think six feet would be overly far. The bends in the hose and feed lines are more of a concern than the length, as these will do more to restrict water flow than distance would. So keep the bends to a minimum and as gentle a turn as possible.
