Just what is prep? I took my car to one day paint and body. It was in full primer. The salesman stated that he would need to prep it anyway. For this "prep" he charged about $170.00. I went to the shop and watched his man prep the car before entering the paint booth. That man was feeling the entire car with his bare hand and another man was filling in the low areas he found with his hand with some green fill material. When the car was finished being painted, and believe me it looked much better than when i brought it in, one door on the drivers side (back seat) door is just far and away, a mess, with literally dozens of "door dings" as well as other little imperfections that surely shoud have been felt by the "prep" man. The salesman stated that those "imperfections" were not on the prep mans ticket. I felt that even though the salesman stated that the imperfections were "body shop" dents, the majority of them were just little "prep" spots that should have been fixed with the green stuff. I was not told that there were some little imperfections that were in fact, in the salesman's opinion, body shop worthy, and so i never had the chance to opt to have them repaired in the original estimate. Since neither the salesman or myself could have seen these small parking lot imperfections with the vehicle in primer, i feel that they should have been noticed to me by someone. I was then able to point out the major paint run on the rear door, and the fact that the salesman was to have had the interior of the rear door painted in my original estimate, and these two "errors" were fixed as agreed. When i offered to have some new estimate prepared to fix this situation, at my expense, i just got the new bid to fix this door, and frankly it is too much money! The new bid to fix this door, with the small dings (considered to be dents by the salesman and his two other managers) was an astounding $250.00! This will only make their business harder to get repeat customers, (such as myself, as i have had another car painted there within the past month). Anyway, now i'm afraid that they would do a bad job of remediation on this car if you called them and made them fix it right for the benefit of future relationships with me and anybody i know. So, again, what is "prep"? And i know that the contract i signed stated that any dings and dents would be left in the car, as this is what the salesman wrote down. What he didnt state was that it was his opinion and his opinion only that there were no dings or dents in the car as presented to his shop. Later he and his managers stated that there was no way to tell if there were any dents needing any "body shop ticket" thus the body shop man never saw the car at all according to the salesman. As for the man "prepping" this car feeling these "dings and dents" with his hands, evidently (no pun intended) it was not his job on his ticket to fix or report these "dings and dents" to anybody, as my contract, according to my salesman stated that there was no dings or dents to fix! How can you be of assistance to me? Please help me out of this fix.
