Digital photography

Digital photography affected the average photographer and almost vanished the photochemical photography. I was wondering what's the level of decrease in the negatives industry. Also, who are the professional photographers that continued using the old methods and why?

I can think of at least 3 photographer I know who still uses non digital cameras and develop and print in the old ways. Some of them say that the quality is still better in non digital (does that make it analog?!) photography, some say they like the process of printing and developing and the control that gives them.

Most of the small photo printer businesses and also the large chains that offered services to the general public rather then to professional photographers either closed or started printing digital as well as non digital images. Most of the estabilshed very professional printers and developer stayed in business and are still working.

It would be interesting to see what would happened in the next 10-20 years when photography school graduate would not have classic photography training. My guess is there would always be a small market for non digital printing and developing, just like there's still a market for vinyl records or fountain pens.

I think most photographers on a professional level have switched to digital.  Mostly because they don't have a lot of choice;  it's hard to find the resources to use film and the old fashioned ways.  However I think it will make a huge comeback as people always want to be different.  We are in wedding photography and I know that we will be adding in film and old school photography into our business soon.

I know some wedding photographers in the UK who still use film.  They say that digital photography produces too much of a clean look. They prefer a touch of grain. In many ways it seems like nostalgia - like preferring vinyl over CDs.

i have a people i know who still use negatives and photochemicals in their photography, but most of them have digital camera themselves. they just love the way an old photo is being processed. they say , these photos developed in the darkroom somehow has spirits..and it does have a deeper meaning into it. I agree with that. with the event of digital photography.. everything seems to be easy.when im on assignment before shooting industrial sites, those images of gate valves , tools, heavy equipments seems to be more sharper on film. it really depends on how you shot the image.
