Diet for a 59 yr. Old woman?

I went to an endocronologist last year because I have hypothyroidism and have been taking synthroid since 1980. I have to literally eat nothing so I don't get like a house. Well, last year I wanted to lose 30 pounds because my back started giving me trouble. The doctor puts me on this diet which consisted of 1 egg in the morning any style, no bread...then lunch and dinner was combined with just a salad with either chicken or turkey in it..lettuce, cucumbers, red onion, raw vegetables..all the water I wanted....NO juices or ANYTHING with sugar in it. Okay, sure I lost 5 pounds a week but getting extremely dizzy! I go back to the dr. and he said well..you would have lost even more if you did not have hypothroidism.....I got angry and said, "you a dr. are supposed to be helping me. I am getting weak and dizzy from this crazy diet you put me on. I could not even have a piece of fruit cause fruit has sugar in it...I am NOT diabetic and don't know why I could not have fruit? I stopped going to him...this is craziness!

appreciate what you have and do your best for a better world http://www.miniature-earth.com

I'm not a doctor but diet without sport can be a recipe for failure. For a woman in your age I'd recommend daily walks. Seeing a psychiatrist doctor is also a good advise to prevent retreat and get encouragement for your move. Good luck

Smile, it's contagious!

I too have  hypothyroidism.  Like you my doctor put me on a diabetic diet.  I'm not diabetic.  It is the best diet to lose weight and stay healthy doing it.  However, it does take a long time for it to be effective due to the thyroid disease.  In 6 months I lost 20 #.  At that rate it would have been 80# in 2 years.  Now that is a significant amount of weight.  But, I gave up after just 6 months.  There is no magic bullet.  It takes lots of determination and even more effort but, it can eventually be done.  If your serious, stick with it and don't quit. [God doesn't like ugly and quitters even less.]  Good luck!
