My son recently bought a pair of round diamond solitaire earrings. When looking at the back of the setting, there is a piece of gold that is attached to the back side of the setting. Attached to that is the post. These pieces are round on one earring and square on the other. Once the earring is in the ear the difference is not obvious. Is this a mismatched set or is this perhaps an identifier of left and right earring? Since this is an expensive pair of earrings I want them to be perfect.
