Developing Success Metrics for website benchmarking

Dear fellow Yedda-Users,

I'm currently working on my master thesis, where I would like to benchmark different websites for success.

I'm aware that there are traffic services like Hitwise and Alexa, but I would like to broaden this view by additional metrics. For example, I would like to list how many "Diggs" a site has had or how many people have bookmarked it via Del.icio.us or similar services.

Is there a way to find out:

1) How many Diggs a website (not a specific page on that site) has received?

2) How many Websites link to a website (not a specific page on that site, but the site in whole)

3) How many bookmarks have been made on Del.icio.us (for the site in whole, not a specific page on the site)

I would also be very interested in your point of view on if there are additional metrics to compare the success of websites.

Thank you very much, Bjoern

Hi, for starters, there's an "f" missing in your link.

Visit my article on http://captainmnemo.net/en/general/90-how-to-develop-a-successful-internet-strategy.html which I will update in a few days regarding metrics. See my comment at http://www.seodesignsolutions.com/blog/seo-marketing/seo-visibility-and-conversion/comment-page-1/#comment-36846 where I try to question a few metrics ideas. Get Firefox browser and install addons "Quirk" and "SEObar", the give you lots of that information. Check out http://www.seoptimise.com/blog/2008/08/33-website-success-metrics-instead-of-rankings-google-pagerank-and-traffic.html and, obviously, just google the term "website metrics". They've probably already written your thesis for you ;-)

Kind regards
