A question for jazz fans: If you were stranded on a desert island, what five jazz CDs would you want to have? (Of course, you'd also want a phone to call home ... but let's just say you have a CD player.)
1. Dave Brubeck - Time Out.
2. Miles Davis - Someday My Prince Will Come (Coltrane's solo in "Someday My Prince Will Come" alone is worth taking the entire album).
3. Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Moanin'.
4. Ella Fitzgerald - Complete Ella In Berlin: Mack The Knife.
5. John Coltrane - Coltrane's Sound.
Thanks, Roee. I like your list ... it doesn't contain all of the "usual suspects." For example, you've got Coltrane's Sounds, instead of, say, A Love Supreme, and Someday My Prince Will Come, rather than the super-popular Kind of Blue.
1. Any Louis Armstrong
2. Thelonious Monk-Straight no chaser
3. Marc Johnson-Sound of summer running
4. Bill Frisell-Nashville
5. John Coltrane-The complete village vangard recordings (box set)
