IF Democrats and Republicans are Against Deficits, WHY do we have Deficits?

545 PEOPLE

By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget.  The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices  545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress.   In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority.  They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing.  I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash.

The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault.   They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall.   No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.   The president can only propose a budget.   He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes.   Who is the speaker of the House?   Nancy Pelosi.  She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility.   I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.  When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red .

If the Army & Marines are in   IRAQ  , it's because they want them in IRAQ
If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power.   Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Always live in the real world, not just in your mind

Dawg, I live on earth and in the real world where coercion works well. We are all humans and I believe the major part of the population does have a price. Emphasizing there are only a few that don’t. I do not believe humans are intrinsically benevolent or honest, I believe its learned trait. Greed is a strong moving force in our human society (animals exempt)

Putting what you said in a perfect world I would agree, but we don’t live in a perfect world therefore what you see is what you get. Yes, we as the people should vote out the whole Congress and Senate etc, set up term limits, and get new people in politics. The fact is I believe most politicians do accept their positions with strings attached, and required paybacks. It appears many are now getting caught, but not enough of them. So if we can scare enough of them into straightening up for awhile, then we vote them out of office.

Now to the question "IF Democrats and Republicans are Against Deficits, WHY do we have Deficits?" First I don’t by into the point “Democrats and Republicans are against Deficits” (unless you were being funny). It is a point of power and both parties enjoy it. Maybe you have heard the latest Democrats “Bush started it with the bailout”. What you don’t hear them say is we are going to finish it, which translates too we will spend more, and they appear to be doing it.

Only a grass roots move can change anything, and how much can be changed is up for grabs. It all depends how we the grass roots approach the problem. Whatever we do it must be focused, i.e. ; Stop the spending frenzy or your out regardless of party.

Let capitalism work and use our political parties to set regulation and transparencies. Then enforce the regulations established and allow bad companies to fail.

That would be nice. But like you say, it isn't a perfect world. And as far as Bush 'starting it', I don't go for that either.

What really made problems, in my opinion, was this:

Democrats in their own words ...

Blondie,

Your Toughest competitor lives in your head, some days his name is fear, or pain,or gravity. Stomp his ass.

Great Question and great information, have you ever thought about writing books? I think if these men were here today they would give Congress a run for there money. These men had great minds, greater than any Politician. We will probably never get a President or leader that can think like they do.

I think you are right, the Politician like to play God with people's lives. And this is a terrible shame all politicians are crooked democrats and Republicans alike. And before you jump on me Dawg you know this is true. Politicians are all getting paid off to pass laws that only benefit the major Companies. You can say that it is all their faults we are in this mess.

You said; 'Before you jump on me'...

See, now there wasn't a bit of ridicule or insult in either one of your posts, therefore I feel no need what so ever to 'jump' on you...  lol

We all have a right to our own opinions and as long as it is discussed in a rational manner, it's all good...

Yup I agree, they are all crooked and I don't know who to trust anymore...

I think it's time to clean house and start all over with our government. The only problem is, there are other governments waiting to seize the opportunity to over-run America while we are fighting amongst ourselves.

I wish I had the answer..

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, Establish Justice,; insure domestic Tranquility, to provide for the common defense, to promote the general Welare, and to Secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and to our Posterity, do ordain and establish the Constitution of the United States of America.

Both political parties are responsible for the huge debt incurred and it is almost insurmoutable to eleviate that debt. It might take several generations to do it. When it will happen, I am not sure, but I do know it will not be in my lifetime. If I may, read the "Formation of the Union," edited by Charles Tansil, Government Printing Office 1929 to see what our founding father meant when they wrote the Constitution. One more thing, the States refused to sign the New Constitution without the Bill of Rights appended to that document. If you read the book, I am sure it will amaze you. Michael Joel Held
