You can change your picture by going to http://expressions.aol.com. This picture is your AIM picture.

But note, that this picture is NOT attached to any mail you are writing. So unless people are also using AOL Webmail, they will not see this picture. It's only displayed in AOL Webmail when you are reading the mail.
