Defrost timer location and type

I have a Kenmore fridge I believe is from the 80's. the model # is 1068608361. the label stating the options it has is still on the inside of the freezer door. it states that it is a frostless fridge. I had been having a problem with it forsting up on the coil so I started looking at some of the parts and come to find out it has the heating element which I tested okay with a dovm. it has a bimetal thermostat which actually tested bad. I wanted to test the system and heater by bypassing this switch by forceing into defrost mode but I can not find the timer anywhere. I checked the most likely spot behind the control panel but theres nothing there. where could this part possibly be. I didn't get the fridge new so I was wondering if maybe the previous owners of the house removed it although there isn't any harness conectors hanging anywhere like there should be. any knowledge on the subject would be appreciated

Some of the sears models had the defrost timer as part of the ice maker, when the ice maker quit so did the defrost system. Look behind the kick plate at bottom , in back remove cardboard and look next to condenser fan ,compressor area. Timer is about 3 in by 4 in with heavy wires red, yellow, blue, black. Look inside freezer for a plastic plug about the size of a dime and two screws about 3 in apart, that is how the timer is mounted two screws diagonal. The thermostat you checked will show open at  60 degrees and must be freezing or cold when you check it with the meter. Don't forget to look at the ice maker if you have one it has gears and the timer under the cover.

As it turns out it was in the ice maker that I had removed due to it becoming a downstairs fridge and not having a water supply. I tracked all of the wires from the heating element and sure enough it went to the harness that used to connect to the ice maker. the thermostat switch was bad. it was stuck open even when below 0 degrees. I'm wiring up a timer by running the needed wires through the hole that the water used to come in through and now I can mount the timer right on the back of the fridge. I'll also replace the thermostat switch and all should be good again. thanks for the info on where it was though.
