Sometimes we put up walls not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.

I've had good luck at the library looking through decorating books to see what appeals to me.  In addition, if you have a bookstore, you can leaf through the home decorating books and magazines to see what you might like, and go from there.  Good luck on your decorating--hope you find something you like.

Start with color - I have a small house and everything in the house is brick or forest green - sounds awful, but the brick goes up to super pale apricot that looks white, the green up to a pale moss.  Although the color scheme is different room to room, the colors are the same so it flows without shock.  My furniture is small but not dainty - tiny furniture makes your house look like a dollhouse.  In the living room, I have two loveseats facing each other, coffee table of two square tables made of black steel with glass top and shelf.  I keep them pushed together at one sofa, pull them apart when needed.  I have absolutely no idea, but I'm told Simplicity Sofas has furniture that is delivered in parts - moving things around is often a problem in small spaces.

I don't know what to suggest for your kitchen - own or rent?  Budget?

Your question is really wide. Well in this task, I think it will be best to have a plan. Choose what part of your house will be your prioritize and you will decorate first. In decorating, I think you should think first a theme, then the color and so on. Just be systematical.
