In Maui, HI, what is the law concerning removing a deceased person's property from their rented residence within 12 hours after the police released the house to the landlord who knew next-of-kin would arrive within 12 hours?
Your direction, not your intention, determines your destination
Seems to me you could do something about such a blatant taking over of property knowing she was taking it when the next of kin would be there at the same time the police released it.Was she in that big a hurry that she had no regard for the boarder she had in life. Seems sleezy to me.I would get a lawyer and sue for illegal possession of property and pain and suffering.I would fix it so she thought twice before taking such action again. If the island has that kind of law, they certainly need to change it.
I can say it is somehow rude for the landlord to act that way given the fact that someone was already responsible to take care of the dead person's belongings. There is a law that would protect the deceased right with his property and if you want to know more, ask a Civil Rights Lawyer .
