Debit card and Credit card

What's the difference between a credit card and a debit card? Which is better?

Do you get points for using a debit card like you do in a credit card?

Debit cards are good MOST of the time vs. a credit card as  stated above; however even a debit card carrying a Visa/Mastercard cannot be used in MANY places like a creditcard can. Examples would be, you cannot rent a car with a debit card WITHOUT having enough money in your account to cover a LARGE deposit ( which returns to your account days after you return your rental, and some other businesses do not accept them either, so beware.

Last year, debit card use surpassed credit card use for the first time in history: Americans made 28.4 billion debit purchases compared with 21 billion credit card purchases, according to payment systems newsletter The Nilson Report.

I think the features that make debit cards convenient - instant access to the money, lack of a required PIN number and not having to drag out your photo ID when you use it - make fraud that much easier.  Theft of your debit card can quickly spend all the money in your bank account, unless reported quickly.

Credit cards are subject tp strict liability laws that limit a consumer's cost for credit card fraud to $50.

I think that debit cards offer much more convenience as compared to credit cards that is if you are not wanting to run up a large outstanding on your credit card bill. With debit cards you can make a payment only if you have money in your account, you are not required to give a pin number nor you need to share your CV number that's printed on the back side of your credit card.

A credit card is used to purchase items as a charge to the card that can be paid for on a revolving payment plan, ie; monthly. Most cases, you pay interest on the unpaid balance.

A debit card is issued through your bank, it is connected directly to your checking account and or savings account.  You may use it instead of cash,  however,  when you purchase an item, your purchase is debited directly from your personal account. There is no interest on this, as it is paid in full with each purchase.  I have used it as a charge card, yes,  however its the same,  you must have money in your account to pay for it immediatly.

You do not recieve pioints on your debit card,  however, your credit card it is counted towards your credit score.
