The answer was given by MSN Support and it worked.
Hello Usamah,

Thank you for writing to the MSN Premium Technical Support Team. This is Allan and I gather that you are unable to open your e-mails through MSN. I understand the importance of resolving your concern. I will be glad to assist you.

Usamah, MSN recently released a new version, MSN 9.6, to enhance customer experience.  The very first time you open your mail in MSN 9.6, an initial synchronization time delay takes place using the new e-mail protocol.  This is the likely reason why you are experiencing this issue, as the synchronization process has not been completed yet.  After this initial session, your email experience should be the same as it was before.

Since it is likely that your MSN software has been upgraded to MSN 9.6, then kindly clear your MSN Mail's local data store to achieve full synchronization.  The local data store tracks e-mail, calendar, and address book data.  MSN backs this file up every 10 minutes.  When the local data store becomes corrupted, it can behave incorrectly.  The CTRL+SHIFT+F9 memory flush clears and then restores the local data store from the most recent backup on the MSN server.  This flush does not delete information that is stored on the MSN server.

To clear the local data store:

     a. To ensure that client data backup has occurred:

          1. Sign in to MSN
          2. On the 'Help & Settings' menu, click 'Status and Support'
          3. In the 'Service' list, click 'E-mail' to view a detailed event history for e-mail service. The event list shows the dates and times when the e-mail synchronized successfully
          4. Under 'Event list', note whether the time of the 'Client data backup' was after your last activity in MSN

Note: If your data was backed up, go to procedure b. If the backup has not yet occurred, wait an additional 15 minutes before you check the Status and Support page again.

     b. To clear the local data store:

          1. If you are signed in to MSN, click 'Sign Out', and then click 'Sign out and close'
          2. Start MSN, but do not sign in. When the sign-in screen appears, press the 'CTRL', 'SHIFT', and 'F9' keys simultaneously on your keyboard

Important note: You should receive a warning about removing e-mail and the parental control information. If you instead receive a warning about removing the account information, you may have pressed CTRL+SHIFT+F11 instead of CTRL+SHIFT+F9. If you receive the account information warning, do not confirm this action when you are prompted.

          3. When you are prompted to confirm your action, click 'Yes' twice
          4. Restart MSN, and then sign in
          5. Wait 30 seconds, before you check your e-mail and address book settings. This gives MSN time to repopulate the local data store

If you still encounter the same issue on your account after performing the above steps, then our Product Team has tested a fix that can resolve a number of the e-mail issues we are seeing in MSN Mail.  Many of the customers who installed this patch or fix reported that their e-mail issues were resolved.  To resolve the issue you have described, please download the patch by doing the following:

Important Notes:

     - Login to your computer as the Administrator or as a member of the Administrator group.  If you are the sole user of your computer, then your account is automatically set as the Administrator.

     - Sign out of the MSN software (butterfly icon) before doing these steps

To download the MSN Mail fix or patch

          1. Connect to the Internet
          2. Open Internet Explorer or click 'Start', choose 'Run' and then type in the box 'iexplore' (without apostrophes); Click 'Ok'
          3. Go to:  http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/e/d/ded6b039-4978-472c-8c9e-723136ae78b0/ENUS/MSN96_Patch5614.exe
          4. Select 'Run' from the File Download dialog box
          5. After downloading the files, click 'Run' on the Security Warning (The files will be extracted.)
          6. Click 'Ok' on the prompt that the MSN software is not running in the background
          7. Click 'Ok' on the prompt that the fix has been applied successfully

Sign in to the MSN software and go to MSN Mail (Mail & More icon).  Stay signed in and allow some time for your e-mails to synchronize properly.  If you need to navigate away from the e-mail page, please open a new browser window instead by pressing 'Ctrl', 'Shift' and 'N' at the same time.

We hope it would be all right if we request you to reply to this e-mail, and let us know if the procedures worked or otherwise.

We appreciate your continued support as we strive to provide you with the highest quality service available.  Thank you for using MSN.

Sincerely,

Allan
