Well, I will not tell where I get my information from (my country leads the world in drug persecution and publicly admitting knowledge is sometimes dangerous), but heroin is one of the most misunderstood drugs there are.  Occasional use is possible if you binge on it for one or two days, then lay off for a month, just like alcohol, which is also an addictive drug with millions more addicts than heroin.

Not that I am advocating that you take heroin for the experience.  Like most drugs that actually work, it is easy to overdose on, so you need education on the proper dosage and dosing methods.
