Well the first thing I would say is look to Lowes ,Home Depot for their seminars that they hold all the time in their stores. Then look around and find something that needs fixing or updating. Then identify what you need to do this project ex. pipe wrenches, levels , hammer and nails etc. then go out and purchase whatever you need for this 1 project with a little extra material incase you goof up. Then draw out your idea and make some measurements. When getting down to it remember think it through but dont strain it is not rocket science. Then measure 2 x cut 1 x keep your eyes covered and your fingers away from the saw blade you will be fine
