Yes, I do agree with Tippy. But I also have to say that you may have to end up breaking your promise to him; I know you don't want to do that but it may come down to his health and safety - and that is more important than your promise to keep his secret. You could perhaps encourage him to call (or you could call) a Crisis Hotline; those are anonymous calls - they will not do anything except listen. Good wishes to you both.
