Why are credit cards the preferred payment method for online transactions over debit cards?

My only guess would be that by using your credit card you might gain more benefits then the debit card(discounts , points etc.) .

Simple,

 There is about 3 or 4 Credit Card standards in the world, while there is countless different incompatible Debit card systems.

plus debit card requires a NIP to be used. and usually an authentication by modem.  

 really does not require anyone to think very much to get to this answer.

Credit cards are preferred because if there is a dispute over the item that you purchased (i.e., you recieve a damaged item) your credit card company is legally bound to investigate the issue (and reclaim the money, if possible). However, if you purchased an item with your debit card- your bank is not legally bound to investigate and if the vendor who sold you the damaged item won't honor a return- you are out of the money. You could of course report the vendor to the Better Business Bureau but that won't get your money back.

becasue it is easy to transact and the merchant are sure that they can get the money since they are billing the banks.

Credit cards are more convenient than debit cards. Even when applying for it.

Hi everyone,

credit cards are preferably used for online than debit cards because they are more convenient in all the ways. Whether its the case of applying, or using or security and facilities. You can pay more than your balance and limit by the credit card, whereas you can only pay the amount you have in your account by debit card.

That has me always made me at least slightly skeptical of PIF: weren't credit cards originally"designed with an installment loan or a personal loan)? Just not sure why it can't be considered "OK" to both PIF if you can pay it in full go ahead but is not a must of-course credit cards company make more money...
