Credit card for student

i have a 19 year old son that I would like to help get a credit card. He is starting college this year and this summer he has a job making $400 dollars a month. He tried getting a Discover student card, but was turned down.  How can I help him get a credit card without co-signing for him?

The reason he was turned down is probably because he has very little credit history, and the lenders see him as an unknown - a risk.  This article on becoming a debt buster has some handy info on the topic which might be of use - check out number 3 in particular regarding the pre-paid credit card options that could be available for your son to utilise.  Hope that helps!
