Remember...it's your money!

I use a rewards card that allows you to choose cash back, gift cards, or discounts on merchandise. I use my card for all of my groceries, gas and drug store purchases because I get double points for those three things. I pay my balance in full every month so that I am not paying interest.

Rewards cards are a great way to get some benefits back from your credit card company. Some people are afraid of rewards cards because they think there is some catch to it or that it doesn't work the way they say it will. Not true! You can get cash back, discounts on merchandise, travel rewards and other deals. Cash back cards are best, of course. Rewards cards work best for you if you don't carry a balance. They sometimes have higher interest rates than other cards, so the rewards aren't worth it if you're paying a lot in interest each month. Also, remember that the rewards usually have an expiration date. Mark your calendar a month ahead of the expiration date so that you don't lose those points.

With gas prices as high as they are right now, companies are offering cards with gas rewards, which is great! Points for airline miles are good if you are a frequent traveler, just watch the expiration date carefully. There are lots of rewards cards to choose from. You just have to be smart about how you use them!

I think I have a great relationship with my credit card.  I have Discover card so I don't have to count points...they offer cash back bonus.  I need the cash back since I'm on a fixed income and apply it to my balance every month.  I always pay my balance in full every month so I figure I'm making money on this deal!  I watch what I spend and having a credit card to use instead of cash allows me never to run out of money wherever I go.  I hardly carry cash anymore.  I earn anywhere from $20 to $60 every month.  This works well for me.

We use a credit card for virtually every purchase we make during the month (except those that ad a fee, such as taxes, tuition, etc.) but we pay off the entire bill each month.  MBNA, from Bank of America, allows use of points for any airline, so we accumulate enough for several flights each year (about 30,000 points representing $30,000 in charges).  Because we don't carry a balance, I don't pay attention to the interest rate but I think it's reasonable, based on our good credit rating.

I use my points for airline miles, and yes I do redeem them!  And, I definitely use my credit card more because of them.  It's the same price and I'm getting something for it, so it's a no-brainer!

Since it seems I have to spend ten dollars to get one reward point, I don't really worry about it.  I don't use the card with the rewards that much anyway (AMEX).

I pay for everything; food, clothes, gas and whatever will take payment with with my Amex card. I even pay my car insurance and cable online with it.

Because Amex has to be paid in full every month, I dont carry any debt and I don't pay ANY interest or fees for using that card, only an annual fee of $45.00

I have racked up  lots of points (they add up rather quickly) and my family and I have traveled many, many times on free tickets from that card. I just book the tickets in their website and they deduct the points from what I have accumulated for payment. I can also transfer the points into my frequent miles accounts (Continental, Delta, ect) to purchase tickets. I can also use the points for buying merchandise from their catalog or getting gift certificates for restaurants, stores and even for theater tickets!

I also have my debit/bank card which also gives me points every time I use it. On certain purchases, they have double miles promotions (two points for every dollar you spend). Last month I used my accumulated points to get a $ 250.00 gift certificate for a store and bought a WII game system for my son.

Using credit cards smartly is a great tool to get free stuff!
