I use a rewards card that allows you to choose cash back, gift cards, or discounts on merchandise. I use my card for all of my groceries, gas and drug store purchases because I get double points for those three things. I pay my balance in full every month so that I am not paying interest.
Rewards cards are a great way to get some benefits back from your credit card company. Some people are afraid of rewards cards because they think there is some catch to it or that it doesn't work the way they say it will. Not true! You can get cash back, discounts on merchandise, travel rewards and other deals. Cash back cards are best, of course. Rewards cards work best for you if you don't carry a balance. They sometimes have higher interest rates than other cards, so the rewards aren't worth it if you're paying a lot in interest each month. Also, remember that the rewards usually have an expiration date. Mark your calendar a month ahead of the expiration date so that you don't lose those points.
With gas prices as high as they are right now, companies are offering cards with gas rewards, which is great! Points for airline miles are good if you are a frequent traveler, just watch the expiration date carefully. There are lots of rewards cards to choose from. You just have to be smart about how you use them!
