Credit Card Debt Settlement Companies

I have been researching credit card debt settlement companies. They all seem to want up front fees and 12-15% of the settled amount. You can coose 1-3 years to make payments. They also charge you a monthly maintenance fee. I am very sceptable about making any commitments to them. Can you reccomend a reputable company? Would I be reckless to try to negotiate with the creditors on my own?

By using these companies, you are paying them money that should go to paying off your credit cards.  You can call the companies yourself, explain your situation and that you NEED to lower the payments for a short period of time.  List your debts in order from the smallest to the largest.  Work on paying the smallest one off first, then the second lowest, and so on.  It will give you a sense of satisfaction as each one is paid off.  If the credit card companies won't work with you, there's not much they can do--you don't have the money, you can't pay for a while.  They will pester the h**l out of you.  If you are not working, get a job to get you through this.  If you ARE working, you might need a second job for a while to clear these up.  And, stop using these cards until you are in shape to do it. I wish you the best and hope you can soon be out from under all of this.

Credit card debt is the worst coz it comes with no underlying asset like home. Usually mortgage debt atleast has some value to be repayed. Anyways, i believe you need serious professional help which can negotiate with the credit card company on behalf of you and get your down to atleast 40-50%.
I personally suggest you talk to credit answers, Call them 866-944-1757 for free consultation(monday-friday). they have some great reviews and secondly have expert panel on board who actually talk to your over the phone during free consultation.

You may not need debt settlement as this is usually used as a last step before bankrupcty.  There are many debt companies out there that have just started up to make a fast buck.  Why not talk to a certified debt counselor first?  You will find a good service that offers a free consultation at BudgetPlanners.net
