My 12-yr old daughter's social schedule can leave all of us worn out, especially her. Any creative ideas for setting limits without it seeming like punishment?
You and your daughter should determine TOGETHER her main priorities (homework, study, hobbies, etc. and determine how much time should be assigned. You can then both decide on how to divide the remainder of available time. When this is decided by both of you it will not be deemed as punishment but as a creative way to divide up her available time.
Just sit her down and politely explain that as much as you want her to be active in corricular activites there needs to be boundries on how many. Let her know that you as parents are also busy & that you each need a breather from a hard days work or her from school. That way she knows that she is not being ganged up on. It would also help her be considerate of others with your honesty.
