Creative art for an entry way! please help!

I'm looking for something creative to hang on my entry wall - it is at the base of my staircase which divides up my living room and dining room so i want it to look completely different - not an art print or sculpture - the space is too small! any suggestions would be most appreciated!

What about a long narrow wall hanging? Check at small local art galleries and photo shops. A lot of digital art is being printed on silk and canvas and all sorts of fabrics, You might find something totally unique at a very reasonable price. I print my own canvases from digital macro photos, mount them and use them in unusual places around the house.

How about a Trompe L'oeil scene painted in the space or maybe pots of painted plants or flowers. It will add dimension to the area without adding any clutter to an already small space
