I am not sure specifically when the courts initialized attendance to 12-step programs, but I was required to do so back in 1982 in the State of Virginia.  It was the best thing that ever happened to me and helped save my life and others as I got clean and sober through these 12-step programs.

I went through a court ordered rehab program in 1978 in Michigan, but that was only part of a more complicated sentence. The program lasted for six months and I came out of the experience clean and sober. After I completed the remainder of my sentence I got hired as a Certified Addiction Counselor at a local clinic, and am currently the Administrater of a Rehab facility.

What comes around, goes around, full circle.  Love your neighbor as you love yourself.  It'll all fall into place.  This too shall pass.  I'm too Blessed to be stressed.

Rob,  I am the Mother of an addict.  My son, Keith, and I have been going thru this now for 11 years.  He was clean once for a year in 2003.  He is in a rehab at this present time and has been clean now for 10 months. This rehab put him thru High School and he got his diploma.  Rob, my son is 39 now and he is headed to College this August and he wants to be a counselor like you.  He feels he would be perfect for the job as he has done it ALL in the way of drugs.  Are there any suggestions you could give him, or "special courses" he should take to be a better counselor than most? Rob, I must say, when I read your paragraph I was sooooo very PROUD of you, I felt like you Mother Wink.  I am anxious to hear from you and I will share ALL that you have to say to my son, Keith.  Thank YOU.  BLESSINGS by the way my email is BluBeautyAngel77@aol.com

Thanks for the kind words, BBA77. I'll write you a seperate message to your email address because there's no simple answer. I'm happy Keith has 10 months of clean time behind him. It's not as easy as people think, especially when you have to wake up in the real world every day.
