Contemporary artists

Who are the most famous artists today?  I know a lot about artists from the past... Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Picasso...  But who are the great painters, sculptors, etc. now?

It's a very complicated question to answer - I think that the reason it's so easy to know who are the past famous artists is that it's the one who stood the test of time, I'm guessing that in Michael Angelo days there were a few hundreds or thousands of artists we've never heard about. It's hard to judge what qualify as fame or success when it comes to art - having the most shows? selling for a lot of money? winning a lot of prizes?

A good way to try and find out is to follow the important art prizes like the Turner
or follow who's showing in the big galleries and museum like the MoMA, PS1, Saatchi or Tate Modern

In Photography- I assume that Annie Leibovitz is the most famous one. She's the one who photographed all the celebrities and her pictures become the contemporary icons, like: the last picture even photographed of John Lennon.

In paintings- I would bet on Helen Frankenthale. See more of her work here.

I reckon my next question is which of these artists will be famous in 100 years... But no one can answer that! Wink

The Work's the Thing

A short film about the art and working methods of Paul Housley. Born in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester in 1964 Paul studied at the Royal College of Art. He has an interest in observing the everyday and a penchant for humble mass-produced objects. Like a number of other young UK artists, Paul is returning to figurative painting, at a time when video, photography, installation and new media have attracted increased attention as art forms. Since the popularity of the young British artists, the rise of ?Brit Art? and the controversy of the Turner Prize, painting has taken a back seat. Damien Hurst was famously quoted as saying that painting was dead. Housley, however works with traditional materials, proving that painting is alive and has an energy and power of its own in today?s art world. His paintings plays with our notions of taste, finding novelty in cliché and lyricism in mundane, blank objects like sports bags and light bulbs.

Introduction

Celebrity Icon is a unique opportunity for actors, directors, script writers, camera operators, make up artists, special effects artists and musicians to share their talents with the world and is designed to help launch careers. Hi my name is Rachel Morris, a few years ago I started putting together a movie script and discovered that it is extremely hard to get scripts picked up by production companies. So I decided to put together a tv series which would help launch not just my movie but the careers of actors, directors, script writers, camera operators, make up artists, special effects artists and musicians. To my disapointment many places I contacted regarding the tv series either did not reply or informed me they do not take unsolicited material. Well my question is how is a person ment to get their ideas out there if no one is willing to give them a chance? After being frustrated for a while I have decided to take matters into my own hands and make the tv series myself, only it will no longer be a tv series but an internet one instead. It is my aim to provide not just myself but also others who are finding it difficult to break into the entertainment industry an opportunity like no other available to them at this time. So if you are an actor, director, script writer, camera operator, make up artist, special effects artist, musician or a fan and are interested in obtaining details regarding this concept email me at celebrityicon09@hotmail.com The more support this concept gains the more opportunities I will be able to offer so make sure you let your friends know about Celebrity Icon.
