Confused over what people foucs on

Why do people tend to focus mostly on World War 2 and the Nazis in particular? Nazi Germany ended 63 years ago why do we still to this day tend to focus on it? People don't focus on Stalin, yet they focus on Hitler? People do not focus on Modern Dictatorships and genocides(like Darfur) though they will focus on a genocide that happened over 63 years ago?

About the holocaust- the Nazis where the only ones who build huge modern and industrial factory's that had one goal- killing people, and doing it fast and efficient. All the genocides that happened and are happening in the world are sad, need to be learned, and are being learned (fact that you know about them), but in not even one of them, people where taken to meat factory's like cattle to the slaughter. About WW2, it was the bigest war that mankind knew since the dawn of history, and it happened in modern times, most of the weapons and military strategy that the world use today had evolved from WW2.

To say nothing, especially when speaking, is half the art of diplomacy.

Holocaust remembrance is also about the future. The meaning of "never again" has never been as clear or as urgent as it is today. It is not those of us that live in Israel that feel this way, many people around the world feel this way.

OBAMA+BIDEN 2012

Because first of all you need to realize that a genocide is a large killing of a certain race or religion and a holocaust is a mass killing of people that belong to a certain race or religion.  And the Holocaust that happened was huge of six million people died.  It needs to be focused on forever.  And maybe people don't focus on Stalin because he wasn't the one invading countries left and right.  Everyone knew Hitler couldn't be stopped if the U.S. didn't enter the war.  I think if you belonged to one of the ethnic groups that was murdered throughout the Holocaust I think you would have a different voice about this.  Darfur is horrible to.  Everything is wrong their its pitaful and upsetting, but Angelina Jolie and everyone else is around Africa 24/7 helping those people.  And also WWII was the biggest war we have ever seen.  A lot bigger then any was since then or before then.  So before you want to say this kind of stuff at least use the brain I know you have.

WWII/Hitler and the Holocaust will always be remembered for different reasons: it was the worst war in human history - it killed 50 million people!; it happened within the last century, which is recent in historical terms (even if to you seems ancient); it was the first documented genocide - the killing/extermination of a people because of their race, ethnicity or religion - 6 million jews were singled out as well as 2 million gypsies, millions of homosexuals and physically/mentally handicapped people; this war was committed by so-called "civilized" modern and well educated people - the Germans; it was a war that went beyond conquest or taking of other people's lands and possessions as they did in past wars. This war aimed at eliminating most of the peoples in those seized lands - Russia and other Slavic countries (not just the Jews). This war was and is considered, so far, to be of epic destruction and human barbarity. The sheer scale of it dwarfs anything ever seen in the world, so far.

My personal answer is this. It was the cause of the greatest conflict in human history, and at least 50 million people died. Also, the allies knew, for many year, of the attrocities being commited, yet america was so "isolationst" that we didn't get involved until 1941 after pearl harbor, and did nothing that would help those being massacred until after d-day and the breakout (and i think a lot of people may not say that they are ashamed of that, but it has to be one reason we're still talking about it so much.)  I DON'T KNOW WHY STALIN ISN'T TALKED ABOUT MORE, BECAUSE I'VE READ MANY TIMES THAT THE NUMBER OF HIS Own People that were murdered were up into the 20-30 million range. He made some of the farmers turn over their entire crops to "the state", and if they starved to death? Too bad!!

People focus on Hitler because he was Satan itself.  Movie cameras were in use and Hitler was often filmed.  We have that to look at.  He tried to kill all Jews.  Think about that.  He didn't like people with disabilities, etc.  They had to die also.

In the end he was a coward who hid out in his underground bunker, killed his German Shepherds, then took his own life and that of Eva Braun (cyanide pill).

At the end of the war, General Eisenhower told photographers, etc., to take as many pictures as they could of the Nazi concentration camps, because someday, he said, there will be people who will say this never happened.

Also, 10 million christians died in europe  in ww2. The press controls what you read. The presses are owned and operated by the very rich. Darfur is anything but rich and powerful; too much news from there would tend to distract from the holocaust.
