I just recieved an IBM Thinkpad (laptop) from my aunt. She used it for work, and it requires me to control alt delete everytime to logon, using her password. I went to the control panel and went through all those options and found an area that was checked, saying, requires users to control alt delete to logon at startup. I deactivated that feature but it still makes me logon everytime i turn the computer on...help!
and whats the best way to clean up a computer, meaning get rid of files and things on this laptop i dont need, making it almost new again...anyway to do it myself...i did disk cleanup and defragment, but it onle seemed to help a little
Hello Jimi, For your first problem you can use Microsoft's TweakUI which will enhance your control over windows user interface. It's perfectly safe as it was made by Microsoft itself. As for cleaning a computer, there's not much more you can do, unless it belongs to the thinkpad brand so you can take it back to factory settings. Run CCleaner as well, will help get rid of some more junk.

ok, i'll try that. only problem is, i dont have internet on that laptop, and i use my computer at work. ill have to see if it can pick up some wireless connection somewhere where there is wireless internet.
how do i restore it to factory settings?
MrRT Because you received the IBM Thinkpad computer from your mother's work, it is password protected by the company. if your mother has the password to get into the BIOS [inside the computer itself] and after that the windows program you are alright. GOTO the IBM thinkpad web site with the model number and they can show you how to disable the BIOS password so that you can get into Windows without too much problem. next, You have to sigh on Windows xp, Vista as an adminisrator and set your self as an administrator. Set up YOUR name as a person that does not have to " sign In" and every time windows starts, you can get in without signing in.
