Hi Samantha,
Sorry to take so long in replying. When you installed Norton, did it give any warnings or errors? Did you make a recovery disk when the installation was completed?
From what you're describing, it sounds like your computer is booting into safe mode, then reloading the proper drivers after it passes the blue screen. Is this what's happening? If it's going to safe mode, it will tell you and it will be mentioned on your screen.
I think at this point you want to boot to safe mode, pretty sure it's by pressing F8 key before the Windows screen comes up, and selecting safe mode as the startup option. Once there, run Norton and see if it catches anything. Once done, reboot your computer normally and see what happens.
If that doesn't work, then you want ot go to the MS Update site and select the malicious software removal tool, and only that. It runs after your computer is rebooted. It's supposed to detect any root kit virus's and try to clean them, and let you know the results when it's finished. If it is a root kit type, you probably want to run the system restore and be done with it. If there are any files, photos, or anything else on your computer that can't be replaced and you would be very sad to lose, back them up first, because system restores usually take you back to the very beginning, like when you got the computer out of the box and first started it.
