What is the best compact digital camera? Small, convenient. NOT a model that was released this holiday season (not interested in paying top dollars just to buy the newest).

I use the Pentax Optio W10 and find that it is great. It is waterproof - so dropping it in the water or snow will not damage it. I have had great success with it.

My recommendation is: Canon DS600. This is the camera that I use. It's a compact one, very convenient and not too expensive.
Purchasing a camera is not difficult if you can specify your needs. If you are just photographing family and scenery and don't expect to order prints larger than page size, you can make do with up to 5 million pixels and not have to spend good money on high resolution that you do not need. In any event, I am thrilled with my Canon Sure Shot because it has an excellent lens, does not eat up battery power and just feels good and comfortable in my hand.
