Can public schools legally endorse a commercial product? My granddaughter just received her supply list. It states that she is to have Crayola watercolors, Crayola crayons, Crayola markers, Wet Ones, Elmers 4oz Black Label glue, Elmers white glue sticks, Fiskars safety scissors (metal only), 100 count Kleenex brand tissue. This cannot be for the quality since they do not require specific brand folders (but do limit them to plastic with pockets and brads, which limits the companies who make them), construction paper does not specify a brand (working in a hobby store I learned there is a difference), and copy paper with no specified brand (quality here is majorly different by brand). The supply list is not a preference list. They do not ask please this brand not that. They specify brand and even labels. So, once again, my question is - Can public schools legally endorse a commercial product? Please, if you do not know the answer do not post an opinion. I really only want the facts. No offense intended. By the way, this is for pre-k. Copy paper? really?
