Personalize Yedda, (And make Danny Happy)

Do you use the 'Comments' feature? Do you use it by choice? Or do you find yourself using it by accident?

This question is meant for all Yedda members who use the 'Comments' feature which is a part of the 'new and improved' Yedda.

I dislike this feature. It is my feeling that its drawbacks outweigh its benefits, since it often seems to be used as a means of putting others down or of causing their 'helpful' status to be damaged by making 'not helpful' comments to those whom the poster dislikes or with whom they disagree.

Nevertheless, Yedda staff insist that the Yeddai are using the 'Comments' feature in overwhelming numbers; leading staff to conclude that it is what the members want.

What I want to know is this: If you use 'Comments,' do you make a conscious and deliberate choice to use it? Or do you wind up using it because it is the first choice that comes up when you want to post a reply to an answer?

I suspect some of you may be among the latter, since you cannot simply 'Add Your Own Answer' without click click clicking your way through the tangled web that is now the new Yedda.

The option to add your own 'Comment,' however, is right there - requiring nothing more complicated than typing and submitting your response.

So, please think about it - and be honest.

If you use 'Comments' as a means of response is that because it was deliberately chosen? Or was the option just first in line - and thus more convenient?

Thank you for your time.

I am not a fan of this new option.  What makes me even more upset, is that if you have written the question, you have to navigate all over the place to be able to post a general reply.  I think it disrupts the thread and makes it time consuming to read posts that you may have missed.    I beliueve that other people would have more to add if it was easier to read the comments. However, most of us don't want to be clicking all over the place, and so miss some interesting points of view of information that is presented.  This system seem to only benefit those that post answers and never revisit the questions.  I wish we had the old system back.

I don't like the comments feature at all.  I have complained to Yedda about it, but they think it is just wonderful!  They see some people leaving comments and think oh happy day, they love it!  BALONEY!  People are using the comments just to give people they don't like unhelpfuls, which evenually lowers their score.  I myself don't use the comments much.  Sometimes I make a mistake, and start typing in the comments box.  But I erase it and start over again in the regular reply section.  I have nothing to hide.  I want everyone to see my reply, not just the few who happen to look at a comment.  The new format stinks to high heaven.  The rocket scientist who got paid big bucks to change the format should be forced to change it back, and then be fired.  It stinks.  It does not work right no matter how many times you complain.  It is stupid.  No one asked for it.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.  No one likes or wants it, except for the Yedda big shots who paid big bucks for it.  They are either too proud, or too ashamed to admit they made a big mistake, and change it back.  And that's too bad for all of the people who used to really enjoy Yedda.  I see a lot of good commenters have left yedda since it is too aggravating to find your way around.   I am Anna Sparky's Mom, and I approve this comment.

For myself, I neither read, write nor respond to Comments.

However, when Yedda first changed its format I accidentally typed a few - because I mistakenly used the wrong text field.

I don't do that any more.

I haven't been around recently (work stuff), so, I haven't used the comments option at all.  I just respond to the question like I am now.  I agree, however, that it ruins the continuity... it was really nice to be able to just scroll and read rather than navigate away from the question.

Thanks for asking this much needed question.  As of today, I have stopped using the comment section because I realized for the first time that my comments (which were really answers) were hidden away and never seen by many.  I will not be duped into using the comment section again!  I will use the "add your answer" even if it means more aggravation for me because when I answer, I am hoping to be read.

I am not using the comments option .  To me it is nothing more than an open forum for personal insults and attacks and it promotes stalking . Which has been the case more than once .  I will suggest once again do away with the most helpful and the thumbs all together .  We came to Yedda to help people and build friendships , to me this is the  " Most Helpful " of all .

I agree with Eguus in regard to the thumbs/helpful etc.  They are a sort of grade we give each other and we do not need them.

A "thank you" from someone we've helped is all we need.  Do away with all opinion/comments on answers.  They do no one any good whatsoever.

I hate that "this answer was helpful" or "not helpful"

some idiots just want to flip their way through and play "judge" for no other reason than to aggravate.  Get rid of all the score keeping.

Give us a simple site, that reads like a normal conversation, with no frills to choose from.  We'll be happy conversing;arguing;advising each other then.  Please, Yedda, listen to us!

granny, in theory I like the ability to add comments.  In practice it sucks.  I posted lots of comments by accident, even when I thought I was doing it right.  If it's that hard for me to use, what is it like for the inexperienced?

I second Equus notion to abolish the thumbs system and helpfulness ratings altogether.  I don't give a rat's behind what mine or anyone else's ratings say.  I make up my own mind about whose opinions/facts/stories are to be trusted/respected/learned from and whose aren't.  And it's not like having a bad or no rating will keep nasty and gross answers from appearing.

With all the serious problems that need to be dealt with, the staff seems to be working on the wrong issues.  It is very frustrating that we still have stalkers, duplicate icons, and slow servers/code.  This reminds me of the American auto companies, constant "upgrades" and changes that didn't make the product any better, just added more stuff that made the vehicle less repairable and durable.  When they did make a decent change it was soon cast aside in favor of something new without addressing the old issues.  I imagine the same thing will happen to Yedda as happened to those companies, competitors with a different philosophy and attitude towards their customers will take them all away.
