From what I know, Lyrica is similar to Gabapentin, with antiepiletic, analgesic, and anxiolitic properties. It's been studied for use in a variety of disorders, including as add-on and monotherapy in refractory or partial seizures, diabetic neuropathy, surgical dental pain and other pain syndromes, postherpetic neuralgia, and social anxiety disorders.
Cymbalta is classified as an antidepressant that belongs to the Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor class. It has also been shown to be effective in improving painful physical symptoms (e.g. back pain, shoulder pain) also used for management of pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
One thing to remember, is that many times doctors will prescribe medications within one class, that actually have a therepeutic use for another ailment.....for example, sometimes anticonvulsants are used for mood stabilizers, some antidepressants are used as a sleeping aid, etc. It's important to discuss this information with your doctor. It's part of your patient's rights to be informed. Another good resource is your Pharmacist. They are more than happy to print out medication information for you. Only you doctor can tell you what use he/she is prescribing these medications for you.
