Clueless on wireless

I have no clue how wireless works and all the sites use words that I just don't understand.  I want to get wireless on my home computer.  I know I will have to buy a card and pay a fee to a wireless company such as Alltel.  Then what?  Do I need a service throught them?  Do I have to pay someone like AOL in addition to that for use of their service?  Someone please explain this to me.

Hi -

If you have a wireless card, you will need to also buy a wireless router. The router will come with an installation cd which will install the drivers and have more information. Then you have to set up the wireless network. You don't have to pay for any other service than you would already have with typical dsl or cable internet. If you have dial up now, then you would have to pay for high speed internet. The best thing to do is reasearch the hardware you will want to use, perhaps on the internet or through friends or sales clerks at the store you are thinking about buying the router and card from and get the right products. After purchasing to hardware, you will be well on your way to wireless. If you have any questions or problems once you gat home, there is always the included support from the companies you buy the hardware from. Read peoples comments about their satisfaction with particular devices before buying. Research first, then buy, then install/ hook up.
