A:

Without knowing all the facts, it could have been anything. There are so many new viral/bacterial strains out now. It could have been MRSA, Strep, Pneumococcal, meningitis or an antibiotic resistant strain of a virus. Also, it depends on what kind (if any) medical problems she may already have had. Alot of the symptoms for all these new diseases, often have flu-like symptoms. It's important that kids receive the pneumococcal vaccine, and are strictly taught not to drink/eat after other kids. Including, sharing lip gloss or any other personal hygiene products. And also, to always carry hand sanitizer at school. Schools are some of the worst places for germs to spread, and with all these new strains, you really have to be careful. Hope this helps. MJ
