How to Clean an old Bathtub

the bathtub in our house, which we rent, is very old (like 40 years) or maybe older. No matter how much you clean it and what products you use, still shows the dirt or some kind of yellowing. Is there anything you recommed that will work, besides asking landlord for a new one!

I have had very good luck on my sink and tubs with Oxy-Clean - you make a paste and leave it on for an hour. It's septic tank safe and works better than anything I've found.

Chlorox made the yellowing worse instead of better.

Thanks! I will try it and let you know.... I am assuming it is a powder? or a gel?

You're very welcome ;)

It's a powder and is in the laundry section at the grocery store. I bet you've seen that Billy Mays guy yelling about it on TV. It's a course powder and tells you on the container how much water to powder to use. I just mix mine in an old butter tub or bowl then apply it with my fingers. It will need to set for an hour - more won't hurt.

I've tried a gallon of chlorox in the tub - made it worse.

Tried scrubbing with everything - this was the easiest and best solution I've found.

I use a mister clean sponge...the white one that is extra heavy duty.  pulls the dirt out of the pores....but I haven't found a way to seal those poors to keep it from building up again, so you might want to keep the sponge handy.
